Michelle Schwartzbauer, Professional Dog Trainer

Michelle
A Minnesota native, Michelle always knew she would be a trainer
from a very early age. Training and showing animals was simply
a way of life. Michelle has been competing and showing animals
for over 25 years.
Like a lot of young girls, Michelle has a love for horses.
This passion grew into multiple ribbons and trophies, as
well as a career as a professional show groom and apprentice
trainer for some of Minnesota’s top stables.
Later on, her training “went to the dogs”! For
over 15 years Michelle’s training and showing has been
dedicated to her dogs. She has earned over 40 titles in obedience,
agility, herding, tracking and Schutzhund — earning
one of her dogs a Versatility Excellent title — the
first for the state of Minnesota for his breed! This title
is awarded only through successfully earning multiple advanced
level titles in a variety of dog sports.
Mixing everyday analogies with humor and years of experience
enable Michelle to teach her students to understand their
dogs and the dogs to achieve new levels of harmony with their
owners.
More information about Michelle can be found at her web site, HipDogSports.com. |

Pam comes to us from Triple Crown Academy in Texas, one of
the nation’s top schools for dog training instructors.

to the Midwest after earning her Canine Training and Behavior

working with many different breeds and temperaments in both
group class and private lesson settings. She also gained
experience training dogs in a variety of venues - obedience,
agility, protection, tracking, search and rescue, handicapped
assistance, and more!
Pam has had a passion for everything canine since she was
very young and her experience with dogs extends beyond training.
While pursuing her bachelor’s degree and completing
the pre-veterinary program at the University of Wisconsin
Green Bay, she volunteered at local animal shelters, and
worked in a kennel and at an emergency vet clinic. Pam also
went to grooming school and has been grooming since May of
2002.
Using her knowledge and experience with dog behavior in all
these different settings, Pam is able to help people better

Denise Smith, Instructor
Denise has always surrounded herself with dogs. Her current
canine family includes Kaylee (yellow lab), Tanner (golden
retriever/shepherd mix), and Rylee (yellow lab). It has always
been an important goal for Denise to involve her dogs in
as many aspects of her life as possible. Training, teamwork,
and commitment made this goal a reality.
Denise has a strong interest in pet therapy work and, while
living in Kansas City, certified her dogs with Pets for Life.
Now in Minneapolis, Denise continues to team up with her
dogs to visit hospitals and nursing homes. It is amazing
to witness first-hand the therapeutic affect dogs have on
the sick and elderly.
To keep up with the active side of her life and the endless
energy level of the retrieval breed, Denise has been training
her dogs in agility for the past several years. For the benefit
of her overly exuberant and extra large lab, Denise discovered
the sport of dock jumping!
Denise shares the role of trainer with her dogs. As a runner,
Denise enlists the help of her canine companions as her running
partners/trainers. They have joined her on several competitive
races and always accompany her on training runs. A long-term
goal for Denise is to become part of a search and rescue
team.
After working with dogs in a variety of settings, activities
and training environments, Denise is excited about sharing
her experiences and knowledge to make the most of the relationship
between dog owners and their canine companions. |

Sarah Bay, Instructor
Sarah has been an animal lover since she was a young girl
and has owned dogs her entire life. She started training
her golden retriever, Kirby, when she was 10 years old and
jumped into competing in AKC obedience trials at the tender
age of 14. Besides titling Kirby to a CD and CDX in obedience,
they received many Highest Scoring Junior Handler, Highest
Scoring Golden Retriever and High in Trial awards. The team
then traveled on to Canada to earn Kirby another title, a
Canadian CD.
Sarah has also owned, bred, raised, trained or shown Morgan
horses for over 15 years. Sarah has 4 dogs – Boxer,
Papillon, Black Lab and a Beagle/Basset mix. She plans on
starting her Papillon, Sam, in Agility this winter. Sarah

Mary Barker, Instructor
Mary grew up in a small town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan
with a dog always close by.
Mary's love for training grew out of a desire to understand
her first Airedale Terrier. Fourteen years ago a famous breeder
allowed her to take a young Airedale home for a trial run.
After much frustration and several failed obedience classes,
she considered giving the young Airedale back when a dear
friend challenged her to look closer at the talent she had
in the young pup. Mary was shocked when she realized how
much the young pup wanted to please her and she just wasn't
using the best training methods for the pup. Her quest to
understand her dog's needs and personality was ignited! That
young pup, Dave, ended up with many obedience placements
and High in Trials as well as several Dog World awards and
national rankings.
With over 47 titles earned so far, Mary currently is training
and showing two Airedales in obedience, agility, tracking,
freestyle and canine therapy. Her male, Willie, is the most
titled Airedale ever with 25 titles to his name and well
on his way to four more titles. Her female, Indy, is close
behind her brother with 16 titles. Her dogs' titles are from
the United States and Canada and in multiple registries.
Mary's signature mark on the breed is that her Airedales
compete willingly and happily which are the critical criteria
of her training and teaching style. Understanding dogs' needs
and point of view is the foundation of Mary's training strength
that she expects to bring to her training classes. |

Annie Holmstrom, Instructor
Bright, energetic and dedicated, all come to mind when you meet Annie.
Growing up, Annie's life consisted of being surrounded by a variety of dogs including
a Cocker Spaniel, German Short-haired Pointer, Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Poodle,
Labrador Retrievers, and of course Yorkshire Terriers. In addition she also spent
time as a volunteer at the local Humane Society.
If not working with dogs, Annie spent many hours training as a International
Figure Skater. With over 15 years of training twice a day and hundreds of metals
won, the natural progression was to move into coaching. Both to children and
adults of all levels and abilities, including the mentally and physically disabled,
Annie has successfully coached figure skating, as well as a variety of other
popular sports for over 8 years.
Annie's current Agility/Working dog is a Yorkie named Baxter. Baxter is definitely teaching Annie the ups and downs of training, especially about training Terriers! Currently Baxter is competing in CPE, and AKC, with USDAA agility trials not far behind. In addition to agility, Annie has goals to get Baxter his Canine Good Citizen title as well as compete with him in competitive Obedience, and at the Working Yorkie National Specialty show. Once you see this team work together, you know they are something special.
