Canine Academy
Stone Mountain Pet Lodge’s Canine Academy is an in-lodge training program with a focus on obedience training. Canine Academy meets at 1:00 PM each day and includes a 30-minute session with your dog, our head trainer, Rob, and one of our assistant trainers. Rob supervises the training of each of the dogs, which follows Stone Mountain’s Obedience 1 curriculum: whatever the Monday 7:30 PM class is working on in a given week is the same skills Canine Academy will be teaching and practicing.

Loose Leash Walking
Are you walking your dog or is your dog walking you? Do you have trouble taking your dog for a walk? Is your dog easily distracted when out for a walk? Is your dog pulling you everywhere?
This class will help you and your dog learn to walk with a loose leash in many different situations. Also, you will learn how to deal with distractions such as other dogs or people on your walks.
Therapy Dogs
This class will introduce you to the world of Therapy Dogs.
In this class you will learn:
• If you and your dog could be a good fit for a visiting therapy dog team.
• What skills you need to develop to be a good visiting therapy dog team.
• Basic therapy dog skills: attention, leave it, introduction to new objects, positioning the dog, handling the dog, desensitizing to sounds and desensitizing to equipment.
Therapy dogs need to have excellent obedience skills. Prerequisites to participate include taking Level 2 obedience or a Canine Good Citizen certificate. If your dog has neither of these you can have him / her evaluated by the instructor before signing up for class.
Even if your dog does not work out as a Therapy Dog, both you and your dog will benefit from this class. Many of the exercises covered in Therapy Dog Class are not offered in any other classes at Stone Mountain Pet Lodge.
This class is 6 one-hour sessions. There is a possibility you may need to take the class more than once depending on how much training you have had previously.
Private Lessons and Specialty Classes
Specialized classes are designed for those who have special needs, or whose schedules don't fit with our set course times and dates.
