Prior To Arrival |
What vaccinations does my pet need to have prior to boarding?
All dogs and cats visiting Stone Mountain Pet Lodge require these
immunizations.
Vaccines must be given by a licensed veterinarian. First-time boarders should
bring veterinarian documentation showing the due dates of the next immunization,
which will be recorded for future reference.
Do you require a minimum number of days for lodging reservations?
No. You can make a reservation for as short as a few hours or as long as several
months. All reservations are built around two plans; Day Lodge and Night Lodge.
For more details, please visit our Lodging page.
Will my pet be examined on arrival?
Your pet will be closely checked upon arrival. Our ABKA certified staff will
inform you of anything unusual we may find. If fleas or ticks are found, your
pet will be treated prior to entering our facility for a nominal charge. We are
extremely careful not to let fleas or ticks into Stone Mountain Pet Lodge. Owners
will always be informed of any problems before the pet's departure.
What do I need to bring for my pet?
At Stone Mountain Pet Lodge, we like to create a very home-like atmosphere for
your pet while they stay with us. We recommend that you bring your pet's bed,
rug, bone and/or favorite toy. This will be an added sense of comfort for your
dog or cat (no irreplaceable items, please). Easily washable items which
have been permanently labeled with your last name are best. You can also bring
your own food, if you wish, at no additional charge or discount.
Do you have pickup and delivery services?
Yes! We provide this service in the form of the Pet
Taxi. Cost is determined by approximate distance from Stone Mountain Pet
Lodge.
What is the minimum lodging age for my pet?
We have no minimum age for puppies or kittens, however we do require that they
have completed the entire series of vaccines.
This generally means that every puppy will be at least 16 weeks old. Sorry, we
cannot make exceptions.
Do you only board cats and dogs?
No! We now accept many different types of pets. For more details, please visit Lodging
(Bird & Pocket Pets).

During Your Pet's Stay |
How does Stone Mountain Pet Lodge handle potty time?
Unlike some kennels, every dog has their own personal outdoor run. We don't let
dogs go indoors because we believe that encourages bad behavior.
Can my dog go outside at any time?
No, because this would make it impossible to keep the kennel heated or cooled
effectively. However, your dog will get frequent trips to their own outdoor run
throughout the day. Scheduled outdoor breaks are 7 AM, 10 AM, 1 PM, 4 PM and
8 PM.
What if my dog requires additional exercise?
A stay at Stone Mountain Pet Lodge includes plenty of attention and love! However,
we do provide extra exercise periods if requested. For a small fee (see our Lodging
prices), your dog can have an additional 15 minute exercise session on our
outdoor wooded walking path, or 15 minutes of playtime in one of our outdoor
play yards.
My puppy is fed more than once per day. Will you do that?
Yes. We like to maintain our guests' routine feeding schedule. There is no charge
for additional feedings.
Do you do "Doggy Day Care"?
Yes! Some pet day care facilities promote the socialization and mixing
of pets through "Doggy Day Care" programs, but we believe day
care is more properly done when pets receive individual attention from
caring handlers. Pets
will never be mixed, unless you want your own dogs to be together.
You can be assured that your pets will receive safe and quality treatment
at Stone Mountain Pet Lodge.
What if my pet should become ill?
Your preferred veterinarian will be contacted immediately. We will do as they
advise. Any charges incurred in the treatment are your responsibility, while
prompt, proper and attentive care of your pet is, of course, our responsibility.
In an emergency, if your veterinarian's clinic is closed, we will use our best
judgment in responding to the needs of your pet unless otherwise instructed by
you or your pet's physician.
What if there is an emergency?
We strive to maintain up-to-date contact information including your home, cell
and one other emergency number. We will try to contact you if a problem arises.
In the event of a medical emergency, your preferred veterinary will be used.
If your preferred veterinary clinic is unavailable or too far away (to be decided
on a case-by-case basis), we will bring your pet to Blaine Area Pet Hospital
(during the day) or Midwest Veterinary Specialty Group (during the night / weekends).
Both veterinary clinics listed are located less than 10 minutes from Stone Mountain
Pet Lodge.

Grooming |
How long does a grooming take?
We usually ask for 2 to
3 hours for a full grooming process.
Why does it take so long?
It is usually the drying that
takes the longest. We use a combination of kennel drying and hand drying
to get your pet dry then we have the haircut time or brushing time.
What is the difference between a Groom and a Bath?
A
grooming usually involves a hair cut of some sort other than just trimming
the feet. A Bath is the same as a groom except there is no hair cutting.
I don’t think they clipped my dogs nails short
enough.
We
trim nails as short as the vein that runs through the nail allows. Sometimes
we can recommend coming in more frequent or using the dremel to get them
shorter.
What is the dremel and why to they use it on my dog?
The dremel
is a sanding tool that allows us to take the nail shorter than just clipping
alone. We use this to help keep your dog’s nails as short as possible
The groomer said my dog was matted, what does that mean?
Matting
is what we call tangled hair. When your dog gets too long or there is
undercoat that isn't being brushed out it can tangle and cause
a lot of problems. It hurts your dog to try to de-matt that hair and
shaving is usually the only way to get rid of the matting without causing
your dog a lot of pain.
How often should I be grooming my pet?
For most of your shorthaired
breeds we recommend every 2-3 months, for dogs that require a lot of
brushing like poodles, shih tzus etc we recommend every 6-8 weeks. This
allows us to maintain the length and style that you like your pet to
have without getting matted and needing to be shaved.

Training |
What do I need to bring for training?
Please equip your dog with a leash and collar before you enter our facility. Do not bring your own treats at this time. The trainer will make recommendations on training equipment when classes start.
Do I need to pre-register? / When is payment due?
Pre-registering is required to enroll you in the class, and payment is due when
you pre-register. Some classes fill quickly, so it is recommended to register
early.
What is the refund policy?
Class fees are NON-REFUNDABLE once the class you have registered for has begun. If notice is given before class starts, a 50% refund will be given. Class fees are not transferable.
What are the age requirements?
Children under the age of 10 years old are not permitted to attend class unless an additional non-handler adult is in attendance for supervision. Junior handlers under the age of 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult. All junior handlers must be able to control their dog.
